CARPENTER ANTS
Fact: Carpenter ants vary in size and color ¼- ½ inch in length. They are usually large and blackish in color. The swarmers’ will often emerge inside a house during the spring.
Fact: Winged ants can be distinguished from termites by their larger size, elbowed antennae and slender waist.
Fact: Carpenter ants do damage to wood by hollowing it out for nesting. Shredded fragments of wood shavings are left behind.
Fact: Carpenter ants will nest in moist and dry wood but prefer moist areas around windows, plumbing, roof leaks, etc…
