About the Formosan Termite
Formosan termites swarm in huge numbers in late spring and summer—after a humid or rainy day. They prefer to swarm between dusk and midnight.
The Formosan termite colony is by far the most aggressive of the species. Like their cousin the western subterranean, they can be found nesting in the soil but can also have aerial nests several stories up, if the moisture conditions are conducive. There can be millions of termites in one colony, stretching the length of a football field.
Due to their size and foraging habits, the Formosan termite can do significant damage to a home within six months.
